Fostering if you have a criminal record

If you have a criminal record it does not necessarily mean you can't be a foster carer - it depends on the nature of the offence(s) and how recent the incident(s) took place.

All our foster carers have criminal record checks (Disclosure and Barring Service checks) before being approved and regularly when they are fostering so it is important that you are honest with us from the start about anything you have on your criminal record.

If you have a criminal record which involves harm to a child or young person then it is unlikely you would be able to make an application to become a foster carer. If you are unsure whether or not your criminal record would prevent you from fostering then please get in touch with us and we will be happy to advise.
