Care Today was founded in 1991 and have 30+ residential homes ranging from 1 to 6 beds in Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Staffordshire, Stoke, Yorkshire and Wolverhampton. Their aim is to offer individualised child-centered packages with an emphasis on a return to family or, if not appropriate, to family living (fostering). They strive to achieve a residential experience which is as de-institutionalised as possible - the base for outreach work in the community.
Care Today also have a DFES approved residential special school in Staffordshire which specialises in working with children who have significant social , emotional and behavioural difficulties. They have a particular focus on outdoor and vocational education, horticulture and animal husbandry, and music.
Care Today links with Parallel Parents by providing a transitional link between residential and family-based settings. Many of Care Today's residential homes are specialised fostering resource centres which offer support to more challenging and complex fostering placements experiencing difficulties adjusting to family living. Resource centres offer a variety of intervention strategies such as outreach work to meet the specific needs of the young person, residential respite and bridging placements to support placement stability, and family intervention work.
