Care Today Children's Services

Care Today has over 40 residential homes ranging from 1 to 6 beds in Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Staffordshire, Stoke, Yorkshire, East Midlands, Wolverhampton and Worcestershire.

We aim to offer individualised child-centred packages with an emphasis on a return to family or, if not appropriate, to family living, which can be provided through our sister organisation Parallel Parents (IFA).

We strive to achieve a residential experience which is as deinstitutionalised as possible - a base for outreach work in the community.

We are the largest family run residential childcare organisation in the UK and have been working extensively with children and young people in a wide variety of settings since 1970. Care Today was founded in 1991.

We know that all children and young people are different and so offer a range of services to help meet their individual needs.

Our services include:

  • Residential homes

  • Small homes

  • Fostering resource centres

  • Education

  • Rural farms

  • Positive steps intervention

  • Supported living accommodation

  • Integrated therapeutic and educational support

  • Individualised care and behaviour management plans

Our values

We believe individual support and relationship-building has more chance of success. Children in care have a right to be seen as children first and to have access to the same support systems as children in the community.

The emphasis must be on family, where possible, or an appropriate substitute family. We must recognise the impact of structures on the lives of children in care and not scapegoat the child for a negative reaction to often inappropriate placements dictated not by their needs but by other priorities e.g. resources.

We believe that effective therapeutic intervention must be based on a secure and positive living situation. Meaningful relationships and consistent support must be a priority.
